Describe the primary focus of the school improvement efforts for the upcoming year.
East High will be focused on four main target areas. We are striving to show continued
improvement in Literacy and Math with the outcome being increased overall proficiency on the
Iowa Assessments. Our other target area is a focus on building a positive school climate. We
believe that through the PLC process we will be able to meet the needs in the above areas
through focusing on student learning, creating a collaborative culture, and focusing on results.
Briefly describe the process used to create/update the school improvement plan. We met
in August and went over the SIP from 2013-2014. We identified areas of weaknesses and
strengths within the plan from last year. We also looked at available data to help inform our
decisions as we worked to create a new plan. From the derived information, the new plan was
created. We have worked on this plan through ELT. It will next be presented to the entire staff
and then finalized based on their insight and recommendation as well as our data.

PD Activities to Accomplish Strategies and Action Steps

Overall PD Process and Description: We have identified the areas of need and applied
strategies to address concerns and increase student achievement and success. In order to
provide the staff with the needed PD we utilize many time frames in which to deliver the PD.
We have at our disposal for PD: planning time, District PD or TQ days, and Wednesday early
release time. Some of the math PD will occur outside of contract hours and has included per
diem pay.
