(a) Define what we mean by a linear transformation from V to W .
(b) Define the kernel and range of a linear transformation T : V W and prove that the range of

B5. Let A Mmn (R) be an m n matrix with entries in R.
(a) Define the null space, null(A), and the row space, row(A), of A. Define the rank and nullity of
A.
(b) Prove that if the matrix B is row equivalent to A, then row(B) = row(A). Hence, or otherwise,
prove that the dimension of row(A) is the number of non-zero rows in the reduced row echelon
form of A.
(c) Find the reduced row echelon form of A when
