have prior knowledge on how to handle materials, and they will create a work based off
of previous knowledge on what certain animals look like.

Accommodations: Students will be accommodated as see fit. Alternative work will be issued
if a student is unable to correctly follow instruction for any reason.

Materials: modeling clay, ceramic clay, string or fishing line, beads, water-based
paint, kiln (teacher use only), straws

Procedures: Students will first view an example of the final product to give an example
and a short description of the lesson. They will then be given a demo with the modeling

clay to show how to handle materials, how to form a pinch pot, and how to scratch and
slip pieces of clay together. They will then begin handling the modeling clay and
generate ideas of what they want their work to look like. The will then create a final piece
by making a pinch pot, attaching arms and a head. They will also need to have feet
made but they will not be attached. The instructor will then fire the ceramics in the kiln.
The students will then paint the now fired ceramics and let them dry. Next the feet will
be attached to the rest of the body with beaded string to complete the ceramic
decoration.
Activity Analysis:

Students will be presented a teachers example and a demo to show the


techniques used to make the ceramic art
Students will also practice with modeling class so that they can be provided with
good feedback prior to making a final piece.
