Explain various rules in basketball. Focus on major fouls and penalties.


Practical:
Students will:
1. Open weebly.com page
2. Read through duties and skills of umpires, whilst teacher explains them.
3. Open up ipad app: sports rules and spend 5 mins becoming familiar with
functions.
4. Instruct students to find the various sections in the app. Time each team to
see how long they take to find rules.
5. Students then work through weebly.com activity at own pace.
6. Once students have completed video referee activites from weebly page,
Group students into pairs & instruct students to open bubble us and crate
mind map on umpiring using Sports rules app.

***Re-cap halfway through to ensure students remain on task correctly.

Choose 3 student pair groups to display mindmap on large screen and


explain to class application and mindmap details. Re-iterate pros of using
sports app and suggest other ways for implementing the app when our on
court.
Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)
Gain students attention and close all ICT devices. Re-cap students
understanding of SEPEP and expectations for what is required of each group
and role. Class discussion to end lesson covering following points:
What app did we utilise today?
How can this be used in a basketball umpiring setting?
Can you see yourself starting to use this application to back-up rule
decisions on court?
Any questions on rules of basketball?
Re-cap next lesson
