Dear Parents,

Dr. Seuss Week

For more than twenty years students in Kansas have

participated in annual state assessments during the spring
semester. All students in 3rd-5th grades are assessed in reading
and math. Additional subjects are assessed at various grade
levels including at the high school level.
All state assessments are taken via computer and consist of a
variety of questions that include multiple-choice and
technology-enhanced items. Last year schools administered
pilot tests that ultimately were not successful because of
design flaws in the testing programs. In October 2014, USD
470 participated in a trial run of the same testing system and
experienced only minor errors. We are anticipating no
problems with the assessments this spring. As these are new
assessments, performance levels have not been established
and scores will not be available to share with students and
parents before the end of the school year.
C-4 students will take their Kansas assessments between
March 23 and April 30. Ensuring your child has a good
nights rest prior to each session, providing your child with a
nutritious breakfast the morning of each session, and most
importantly, sharing words of encouragement are great ways
to boost your childs test-taking confidence.

Eagles Care! UPDATE

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society hosts the Pennies for
Patients fundraising campaign yearly. Students at C-4 brought in
spare change February 6th-13th and donated it to their
classroom fund. Students were updated daily as to the amount
each classroom raised. Some friendly competition between
classes took place. The total amount presented to this worthy
charity from C-4 was $762.58! The class that collected the most
at C-4 was Kindergarten with a total of $215.00!

day: Dress as your favorite character or wear black,
white & red! (Daisy-Head Mayzie, Thing 1/Thing 2,

Families are beginning to get excited about running! During conferences, 37 students ran and racked up a total of
53.25 miles! A total12 parents signed up to volunteer. Volunteers agree to come run or walk at least one recess with
their child and then a re eligible to log their child's a nd their own miles a t home on the Mighty Milers website.

Jump Rope for Heart will take place April 7, 2015. This is the
36th Anniversary of this event to help raise money for the
American Heart Association and helps children with heart
disease meet medical expenses, pay for summer camps and
fund research.
Mr. Palmer will be sending home information before spring
break. This is a great way for our students to help others!
