Background

Since discovery of UK Continental Shelf creation


and growth of STBORs has been promoted.
STBOR provided wide range of services and
products in O&G sector
The industry provides employment to more than 3
lac people in 2000+ companies
This sector grows with the need of innovation
According to STBOR there is constant need to
respond and adapt to rapidly changing
environment
This paper shows the difficulties faced by STBORs
owing to the innovation in industry

Methodology
Data was collected widely from primary and secondary sources
Stages of methodology:
1. Stage 1: Selection of sample was done on the basis of interviews.
Sample size of the study was of 6 companies. Selected STBOR has
150 employees being most innovative company ( by experts)
2. Stage 2: For knowing more about the company depth interviews of
CEOs were taken through questionnaire and quality related issues
were discussed like quality standards, quality costs, training, etc.
3. Stage 3: For studying the issues in the industry contractors,
operators and official bodies were questioned.
4. Stage 4: Various industry seminars and conferences were
attended, reliable records were studied, etc.
. STBOR mainly has to tackle the problem of high investment,
customer retention and skill management.

Effects of Changes
Changes affected all levels of the industry
Streamlining supply with UKCS followed concept of
lean supply.
Operators redefining their core business led to
outsourcing and increased business of contractors.
Situation became complex for STBORS, particularly in
maintaining communications.
Results of the Study:
The perceived links between innovation and quality
were not identified by the sample companies.
It is observed that companies are trying to bring the
concept of total quality in practice.
