Censorship in Iran
Author:
Karina Rodriguez

Is censoring the news the best way

for the Iranian government to do for their
people? The citizens of Iran do not have
access to many western sites iran's citizens
do not have access to Gmail, Google,
Youtube, BBC, CNN, Facebook or Twitter.
Mahamod
Tajali,
an
Iranian
telecommunicator that lives in Germany
said that this was just a move from the
government To control all the traffic from
the outside. 1

Many are using what a is

called a VPNs sothattheycan go passedthe
restrictions put by the government . Most
believe that the ban on Gmail and Google
won't go on for long , small protest groups
have started the protest that mostly business
andschoolsneedgoogle.

They government in Iran believes that

they are doing the right thing , that by
blocking websites on the internet they are
protecting theirpeoplefromgettingdifferent
ideas. police chief Hossein Sajedinia
believes that the video that was posted on
YouTubebysixyoungIranianswerepart

of was a "Vulgar clip which hurt the public

chastity and was released in cyberspace." 2
A new
police that iran's government is doing to give
more freedom ontheinternetisso,etchingthecall
smart filtering.Thepointofthisisthatsomesites
would no longer be blocked they would simply
just be filtered and this will only be allowed for
the citizens that have a clear identity on the
internet.

Many people do not approve of the

internet censorship that has been placed,
the 500 most viewed websites on the
internet have Been either blocked
3
completely or are filtered.
Although
children and adults knows how to bypass
social media that have been blocked they
still don't agree with this censorship they
believe that it is a violation of their
freedom, since websites aren't the only
thing that are being taken away also
books,television,andmore.
Since Iran is lead by a supreme leader
there is nothing much they can do to
change it they can only just hope for the
best and try to understand why it happens
even if they don't agree with why it's
being doneorhow.Therewouldbenouse
protesting, the supreme leader's choice on
how to deal with censorship and if he
schooled keep the news block, filtered or
simplyunblockit.

STOP THE VIOLENCE

!

Doyouwanttodowhatyoulike,and
not have to ask for permission . Women in
Iran don't have that freedom, they have to
live in fear of their husbands. Domestic
Violence is an issue everywhere not just in
Iran and it can happen to anyone no matter
social poison , economic issues , ethnicity
anyonecanbeavictim.
The surveymadebyHindawi,Journalof
Environment and Public Health1 focuses on
the probability of a women in the city of
Tehran the capital of Iran being abused. The
world health organization study 24,000
women in 10 different countries and out of
all these women from all over the world
15%71% have been in a relationship where
they have experienced physical or emotional
violence from their partner, in some point in
their lives. Studies show that females with
alcoholic male partners or partners without a
fulltimejobormorelikelytobeabused.
I would like to focus on Iran's domestic
violence rate , Irans census bureau has never
done a study on domestic violence and has
not permit anyone elsetodoso.Theministry
of higher education undertook this project in
28 provinces, their results concluded that
66% of women in Iran experiences abuse in
their first year of marriage not only by the
partnersbutalsotheirinlaws.

Something that was also found was that

women in Iran with a higher education and are
employed have a lower risk of experiencing
domesticviolence.

There is an old saying in Iran that says

Women should sacrifice themselves and
tolerate, Many live by this saying in iran .
According to the article
World: Violence Against
Women In Iran, Abuse Is Part Of The Culture
Women believe that when their husbands jealous
actions turn into physical abuse its because they
are giving them love and attention . Citizanes of
iran find abusing the women I'm the family is
okay .There are many points that even encourage
it like the lawonbloodmoney,whenawomenis
murder her family will get less then half of what
the family of a male would restive because a
woman is worthlessthanamam.Manypolitical
figures such asIran'sparliament ,Iranspresident,
and there Head of Judiciary all believe the same
thing If kneeling beforegodwerenotobligatory,
wives should have kneeled before their
husbands as was said by
Mullah Mohammad
Yazdi,HeadofJudiciary.

and if the would like to live the city they
have to have a male guardian's

marriage, divorce, inheritance, or child
custody. How are men in Iranexpectedto
treat women right when there own
government won't , they only way to stop
this abuse to womenistoeducatethemso
