Personal Leadership Development Plan

Hayley J. Meredith
OCCT 650 Leadership and Occupational Therapy
Spring 2015

Personal Statement
I am a second-year graduate student at Touro University Nevada (TUN) where I am
pursuing a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. I am a member of Pi Theta Epsilon and
was Vice President of the Student Government Association for the School of Occupational
Therapy at TUN. I am a proud Oregonian and have clinical interests in occupational therapy in
oncology, community reintegration, and primary care. I completed my first Level II fieldwork
experience at Summerlin Hospital within in-patient rehabilitation, and will be completing my
second Level II fieldwork experience at St. Rose Dominican Hospital -Siena Campus in acute
care. Before graduate school I completed an international occupational therapy internship in
Auckland, New Zealand in pediatrics. I am a self-directed learner, goal-oriented, and enjoy
working with a team of professionals from a variety of disciplines.
Mission and/or Vision Statement
My life's journey is about becoming a self-sufficient and professional woman. I have
found my purpose through occupational therapy to empower others to live functional and
independent lives. I will strive to incorporate compassion, humility, and patience into my daily
life. I will constantly renew myself by focusing on exercising regularly, praying often, and
finding balance between by professional and personal lives.
Strengths
Based on the Strengths Finder 2.0 Assessment my strengths include individualization,
futuristic, connectedness, activator, and communication. These themes demonstrate that I tend to
be very intrigued by the unique qualities of each person, am a forward thinker, and move beyond

my own self-interests and inspire others to see the connections between their abilities,
accomplishments, and purpose. My strengths also showed that I take action and strive to lead by
example, and use communication to inspire and energize people with words.
Growth Needs
Areas of growth include active listening and being mindful, or present. I have received
this from my peers and family members. Being mindful is something I have struggled with for a
long time, but have sought outside resources in mindfulness training and mediation.
Leadership Model and/or Style Selected
I align most closely with the Leadership Challenge Model. I believe in leading my
example by creating standards of excellence and modeling that for others to follow. I use
magnetism and quiet persuasion to enlist others, and am willing to take risks to challenge the
status quo to innovate and improve organization. In group settings I try to foster collaboration,
and strive to create an atmosphere of trust and consensus to make each person feel capable and
powerful.
