REFLECTION / COMMENTS:
Curriculum
Working on curriculum focused projects has been a great learning experience. With
a background as a Counselor I have needed greater exposure to curriculum.
Working with the Curriculum Coordinator has been helpful in understanding her
roles and also the roles of administration with curriculum. The focus that the district
has is more clear and explains the various professional development activities and
programs that have been implemented. It appears that the district lacks updated
curriculum goals that provide direction and focus so this information almost has to
be obtained from personal interview. District curriculum goals should be
established and revisited annually. With student learning as the focus of the
schools existence, as a building leader this should be a priority in order to provide

clear direction. In doing a vertical alignment project on Math State test scores 3-8, I
now have the ability to know where to access district scores as well as state scores.
The NYSED website is a wealth of information in all areas and strongly supports
research based practices and procedures. With the basic knowledge on collecting
and analyzing data, future endeavors in this area will be easier with more familiarity
with the NYSED website.
Electronic Portfolio
Much of this months internship hours have revolved around building a
comprehensive electronic portfolio. Throughout the internship experience I had
used a website that was not easily meeting the needs of the portfolio requirements.
The Curriculum Coordinator worked with me and introduced me to Weebly, a very
useful web-based site that supports building electronic portfolios. Re-doing the
documentation has been time consuming yet helpful in reiterating the standards
based design and how it all aligns within the entire internship experience. This
experience has had a strong emphasis on the ELCC Standards which has engrained
in me a great foundation for which to work professionally. These standards can be
used throughout my professional career as a self-evaluation tool as well as a guide
in ensuring that all standards are addressed and covered thoroughly. As hard as it
is to believe that my internship experience has come to an end, as I reflect back two
years ago I am astonished at the wealth of information that I have learned. My reallife experiences have been rewarding and will serve me well as I grow in my
leadership skills. The cohort that I have shared this experience with through St.
Bonas will be part of my educational network as well as all of the administrators
that I have had the privilege to work with. Through challenging myself and stepping
into roles and activities that I normally would not be a part of, I have considerably
expanded my skill set. New areas are not intimidating but are now seen as a
challenge, one that may take great research, but still a challenge that is worth
taking. Completing the self-inventory has shown me the growth that I have made
since I first took it two years ago. I now have a comprehensive understanding of the
standards and the level of work that it takes to serve a school in the leadership
capacity.
