Colour Out of Space.

Theme
The titled was from title of a book by H.P. Lovecraft's short novel
"The Colour Out of Space."
theme was very vague so that we were able to have a range of
different medias of art work.
We all agreed that our theme would involve, colour, space light
and nature.
Most of us liked the same work, so there was no hassle.
The reason why we picked nature, because it has endless
possibilities, simple but effective which aloud us to have different
medium of works.

Development
Started off looking around the level 5/6 studios to get a kind of
feel for what work was being produced.
The group met every week to discuss what was done, in the process
of, or further planning.
We took notes in lectures especially health and safety when
curating an exhibition, and took notice of what everyone jobs was,
some had more responsibility then others, but some which of
nominated themselves for that job.

Mission Statement
It was just the colour out of space
Our exhibition, titled It was the colour out of space, is taking place on 2nd March and is being held at the Birmingham School of
Art in Margaret Street. The building was founded in 1843 and is now part of Birmingham City Faculty of Arts and is the home of
the department of Fine arts. The exhibition is being held in PS1, a room which is used for displaying art works of the students within
the building.
The exhibition is titled It was just the colour out of space which is a quote from a short story written by H.P Lovecraft. We thought
that this title was perfect for the theme of our exhibition, which is about colour, nature and light. All three of these words link
together, and so do the art works we have chosen to exhibit. Firstly, we went around the Level 5/6 studios to look at the students art
work and we realised that there were recurring themes within the work. For example, there are a lot of works about space and the
nature of space, especially paintings and sculptural works. We also liked the very colourful works and a lot of them related back to
nature and the experience of nature. There are nine artists who are involved in our exhibition. All of them have very different types
of work, yet they all reflect similar ideas and can all be linked together. The artists who we are using work from in our exhibition are;
Amber Sims, Hayley Moorman, Jess Maxfield, Kerry Farrell, Rachel Pilkington, Roman Malinowski, Amber Middleton, Holly
Astbury and Harriet Chandler.
We have are displaying works from nine artists, as we wanted to get a range of paintings, sculpture and photography. An example of
work we are showing is Hayley Moormans work, a level 6 student who works with sculpture. She uses expanding foam and paint as
materials to create her own imaginary worlds, also using reflection and experimentation with light to add a fantasy element. Her
work fits so well into our exhibition because it is about the nature of space and atmosphere.
We want It was the colour out of space exhibition to be interesting for the audience and we would like to keep it simple so that it is
relatable for all audiences. We have chosen our exhibition to be public viewing during the 3rd because we feel that the art works we
have chosen can be appreciated by all audiences. However, there will be a private view taking place on the evening of the 2nd March
(5-7pm). Our theme is simple, yet effective and our title is descriptive of the works as a whole.
