Dear Colleagues:
I take the greatest professional pleasure in recommending Ryan Smith to you without qualification for the position
of teacher. I have supervised Ryan as his field supervisor for the 2014-2015 school year. Ryan will complete his
student teaching in Secondary Social Studies at Rogers High School in the Spokane School District in Spokane,
Washington.
During this time, I have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate his work as well as his accomplishments. I
have found Ryan to be a highly intelligent professional with integrity who is respected by all. He always performs
above and beyond the call of his duties. Ryan accepts responsibility and always goes that extra mile with the good
of the students and district in mind.
Ryan is an enthusiastic, eager and professional teacher who will hold an endorsement in Secondary Social Studies
Education. During his student teaching, I observed and documented Ryan's expertise in planning and preparation,
instruction, classroom management, relationships with students, and interest in teaching.
In the area of planning and preparation, Ryan demonstrated a high level of ability in targeting the standards with
excellent daily objectives, sequencing instruction to build on the academic competence of each student,
integrating literacy, and aligning both formative and summative assessments with the learning targets. Ryan
planned lessons with an understanding of the students and the families in the community.
In the area of instruction, Ryan demonstrated superb skills in teaching based upon recent research. His instruction
offered students multiple means of accessing content through whole-class discussions, partner work, cooperative
learning and multi-modal presentation of information.
Ryan developed outstanding relationships with his students, their parents, teachers, administrators, and staff. He
worked well collaboratively and responded quickly and positively to constructive criticism. Ryan was very flexible
to change and quick to implement curriculum and instructional suggestions.
Ryan always projected a professional image inside and outside the classroom. His enthusiasm and passion for
teaching are very obvious. It was evident that he enjoyed teaching and his students enjoyed learning.
I highly recommend Ryan for a teaching position. I know he will be a great success with his dedication, passion and
