SCIENTIFIC METHOD CHECKLIST

1. Problem
- Develop a question or problem that can be solved
through experimentation.
2. Research
- Make observations on your topic of interest.
- Find out facts about your topic.
3. Formulate a hypothesis
- Predict a possible answer to the problem or question.
- Based on the research, answer the problem by
writing an outcome using an if/then statement.
4. Design the experiment
- Detail the materials and procedures that will be used.
- Develop and follow a procedure.
- Include a detailed materials list.
- The outcome must be measurable (quantifiable).
5. Organize
- Make charts and graphs that explain the collected
data.
6. Results
- Summarize all data and observations. Tell only what
is observed in the data.
- Tell information that may be important to your
hypothesis:
How many trials
Dependent on the experiment
7. Conclusions
- Share what was learned by the experiment.
- Share why the hypothesis is correct or incorrect.
- Share how the research may support what happened
in your experiment.

- State any potential improvements that could be


made.
