Equipment Needed: Large board to write on in front of group
Description:
Write a very long word up at the top of the chalkboard. For
example, personifications can be a long word you use for the game.
Have participants call out new words that can be made from the long
word using 3 or more words. Write them down and see how many you
can get. The number of participants can be up to 20.
Leadership Consideration:
The referee/facilitator must be near the players so they can call
on participants to answer. The facilitator should also be nearby to
observe behaviors and reactions. Safety considerations include
gauging participants and competitiveness. Control the group so yelling
over each other doesnt occur.
For mentally disabled children, the long word might cause a lot of
trouble for them so an adaptation could be to use a smaller word or
have them have the letters in front of them on paper so they can move
the letters around and come up with words that way.
For blind patients, the biggest adaptation or obstacle would be
seeing the long word being used. An adaptation for this would be to
say and spell the word out for the participant so that they have a
better chance at succeeding in the game. Also, other participants could
be blindfolded to level the playing field.
