Specific Task
(A.1, A.2)

How I plan on improving in this area:

A.1.1 Use a variety of

observation and
documentation
techniques.

I would constantly review my observation methods that Ive been taught

(anecdotal, ABC event sampling, duration and frequency) and to remember
that the interpretation and action plan is very important in needing to be
thorough and professional.

A.2.3 Develop infant

program.

With experience in working in an infant program, I would work on setting up

quality environments, because for infants their learning is solely based upon
what we put in their environments, and what we introduce to them. I would
sing lots, and have plenty of sensory experiences.

A.3.1 Build meaningful

relationships with the
children.

I would work on building supportive relationships with the children and make
them comfortable to trust me and look up to me as a role model. I would do
this through modelling ideal behavior and treating the children with the same
amount of respect that I expect myself.

B.1.2 Maintain and

implement safety
standards and protocols.

I would read over the occupational health and safety act, as well the DNA to
understand the regulations and safety practices as an educators. As well I
would refer to the centers policies on a needed basis to understand the
expectations for the specific center.

B.1.4 Adapt programming

and equipment to unique
settings and situations.

I will constantly work on being flexible and creative in situations in which I

may need to adapt my environment or setting to make the new situation work
such as doing a creative art body movement instead of playing outside on a
rainy day. I will try to use creative adaptations when needed.

B.2.3 Monitor cleanliness

and sanitation of areas
used by children.

I will work on this by realizing how fast the spread of germs are, and how the
safety and health of the children needs to maintained by attending a clean
quality center. I would make sure to wipe all surfaces after each use with a
water bleach solution, and to remember to clean toys on a daily, weekly,

monthly and yearly basis as needed.

C.1.3 Communicate with

families.

This is a task that many may find hard due to hectic schedules and
pickup/drop off times. I would work on communication with parents by keeping
communication books, as well a parent book, and I would as well do my best
to allow communication with parents as they attend the center.

C.1.5 Provide family

resources.

I would improve on this skill by collecting a survey of what resources parents

need and work towards researching those services as well as getting in
contact with those places for information or services as needed.

C.2.3 Involve volunteers.

D.1.1 Create partnerships

with colleagues

D.1.4 Demonstrate
leadership.

D.2.1 Support and guide

colleagues and students.

I would love to include a college student as part of my team in my classroom.

With how rewarding it is as a student perspective, I would love to be a host for
that. I feel that my philosophy of working with children is admirable and I
would love to share that with a student to learn from.

I will work on being supportive of my partner and their philosophy. I will work
with them to ensure that we can all agree on decisions and to take everyones
opinion into considerations. I would not want to take control of the class or fall
back and make them do everything. I would love to maintain a healthy
balance of work and planning.
I will strive to be an organized leader that takes initiative and delegates tasks.
I will be positive and help the other coworkers that may not feel as confident
in taking on leadership roles.
I plan to work on this by being available to my fellow staff and students and
through working on the relationships with them, I would hope to make it clear
that Im very supportive and understanding. By doing that I would hope that
they would feel comfortable approaching me knowing that I will support and

guide them.

E.1.4 Maintain
Confidentiality.

E.2.2 Maintain physical

health.

E.3.3 Participate in
professional workshops,
courses, and ongoing
learning.

F.1.1 Record daily and

monthly attendance.

F.1.2 Record and report

accidents, incidents and
occurrences, as required.
F.1.8 Complete the childs
daily log for parents.

As an early childhood educator, confidentiality is crucial and I would maintain

that by making sure all conversations about a child are held with only
appropriate resources (i.e. parents, supervisor, resource consultants, etc.)
I will be making sure to keep a healthy lifestyle regimen to ensure that I can
perform as an educator at my best daily in accordance with keeping the
children safe. Also with eating healthy and participating in an active lifestyle, I
can role model to the children healthy choices.
I have attended a reflective practice network and I will continuing to
participate in these networks to ensure that I can be constantly reflecting on
what Im doing with the children and in my environments.

I would remember to wear a watch daily to ensure that I will be able to sign
out children especially if were somewhere that I wont have the sign out sheet
readily available. This way I can make sure to always know the time and keep
organized.
I would make sure to read over the policies of my center to make sure I am
aware of how they want their accident reports done, to make sure I am putting
in all relevant information and the circumstance.
Even though this is a mandatory practice, I would ensure to take this very
seriously and understand that parents want to know as much as they can
about their childs day when they cannot be with them I would work on
possibly adding something nice that the child did each day to give the parents
a smile as well.

Work your way through the Occupational Standards document to identify areas that you would like to
improve on in the coming weeks.
