Reflection
Teacher Reflection on Lesson Planning and Implementation:
It was a very smooth process putting together this lesson plan. With the help
and support of my host teacher, I was able to receive proper suggestions for
implementation within the creation. I knew beforehand that working with
coins was not something new to the students for they had learned about
their meaning in first grade. However, this was their first time adding in large
quantities so I did not know what to expect. They were able to grasp the
concept very well and could total the numbers together quickly. I noticed
that they could add four nickels together very quickly but they had trouble
adding four 5s together quickly. They understood that a nickel was 5 but
they had trouble making that connection with just the number. Just
something to ponder. Once again, I miscalculated how long the lesson was
going to take so we did not have time to get to the game though we did
several practice problems as a group with the coins and they responded to it
very well. This was a very successful lesson.
