Conclusion
The study of light is called optics. Light In a vacuum, the speed of light is 186,282 miles
per second. The view of the nature of light has gone back and forth for many years. Particle or
wave? Well we have found out over various theories, that light actually has a dual nature. Light
can act as a particle and light may act as a wave. There were also various other scientist that
contributed to this notion, no one scientist did it alone. It took the work of many to come to the
conclusion that we have today that wave is acts as a particle and a wave.

Reflection
After completing various amounts of experiments on light, I learned a lot of new things
about the nature of light. I knew the laws of light by memory; however, I didnt fully grasp the
concept. Carrying out these experiments helped me to put things into perspective. I was able to
learn from my mistakes in order to follow through with pretty good experiments. I realized that
the point of an experiment is not to get it right the first time; its all about the trial and error. I
found that once I repeated an experiment a couple times I took hold of the concept rather than
just following instructions in a book. This project was challenging, however it was a great
learning experience.
I have learned that slow and steady wins the race. These experiments arent something
you can do all in a day. They take time, precision, and most importantly accuracy. You arent a
failure if you have to redo your experiment a thousand times as long as you learn from the last
mistake. Rulers are a must for a presentable experiment, and sometimes colored pencils help. I
had to especially make sure that I was using my protractor correctly, because sometimes it gets
tricky. Having a wrongly calculated angle could throw off all your answers. I became familiar with
key words like deviation, bending, rarefaction, reflection, and a lot others. I never really
understood what the word deviation meant, I found out that it means the angle between the
direction of the refracted ray and the direction of the incident ray when a ray of light passes from
one medium to another.
The color mixing experiments were the most interesting and the most challenging. I
didnt know that colors could be absorbed. Also I didnt know that three colors could produce
white light. I believed up until this experiment that white light was only produced by a regular
light bulb, not the combination of colors. The colors of the electromagnetic spectrum have been
hatched in my mind, and so have all the great names of the contributors to the discovery of light.
Men like, Einstein, Planck, Huygens and Newton bestowed a lot of great information and
discoveries.
In my class doing the experiments were fun, everyone seemed to be excited about using
the different colored filters. The lights were off in the class room and the way the lights projected
were beautiful. Being able to have fun whilst I was learning was amazing. I was truly intrigued
with all the new things that I came about. Changing up the apparatus like the filters, blocks, and

mirrors to give different effects of light was mind blowing. Who wouldve known that light was
capable of that?
As a whole, I am satisfied with how I carried out my experiments and how I gathered my
information together. The things I would do to improve this is do more research, and make sure
that I have a full understanding of the concept and more background information. I enjoyed
learning new things about light that would have never crossed my mind if I had not been
assigned this.
