End of Term Experiment

Introduction
The experiment will be held in determining the concentration of
aspirin contained in various products in the market. Atomic Absorption
Spectroscopy and Fluorescense spectroscopy will be used in order to
obtain the actual concentration of aspirin in the products and to
determine if the product contains lead.
Supplies
- Four or more medicines that contains aspirin, AcuprinAlka-Seltzer
Products (Regular, Extra Strength, Plus Flu, PM), AlorAnacin Products
(Regular, Advanced Headache Formula, With Codeine), Asacol tablets,
Ascriptin tablets, Aspergum tablets, Aspircaf tablets, Aspirin tablets,
coated and uncoated, Aspirin plus Stomach Guard tablets, Aspir-Mox
tablets, Aspirtab tablets, Aspir-trin tablets, Azdone, that are available in
the pharmacy will be collected.
- Ten 50mL flasks
- 4M NaOH solution
- Acetyl Salicylic acid
- AA grade water
- 1% trace metal grade nitric acid
- 1 g/mL Pb (liquid)
