To Kill a Mockingbird: Poetry Analysis Essay

Assignment: Your assignment is to find and analyze one poem that you believe relates to
TKAM. The poem selection should have been completed before today, and your poetry analysis
should be complete today. The relation you create between poem and novel MUST be defended
with evidence from TKAM. When thinking of a relation between poem and novel consider
themes, characters, and motifs. Analysis of the poem and comparison to the novel will be the
focus of your essay.
Requirements:

Poem must be approved before you begin writing.

Length 1 to 3 pages
MLA Format
o Double spaced
o 12 point font
o Times New Roman font
o Name and page number in upper right hand corner (Smith 1)
o There must be a title that follows MLA Format
o Quotes must follow rules of MLA
A Works Cited page is not included in your final page count.

Remember:

Make your introduction sentence strong and attention grabbing.

Your thesis statement needs to be clear and concise.
If you quotes novel or poem, remember to cite them.
Your body paragraphs should consist of analysis, comparison to novel, and evidence.
