ABSTRACT
The High Resolution Thoracic Computed Axial Tomography (HTCAT), is a
radiology study of the thorax used for the evaluation of patients with normal or
inconclusive radiograph. In a HTCAT, radiation dose is much higher than in a simple scan
to achieve fine cuts in large numbers. It is important to limit the use of this exploration
because of the elevated exposure to radiation, allowing the physician to get a diagnosis with
the semiology. Therefore, this investigation focuses on the Analysis of the Procedures for
the Reconstruction of High Resolution Thorax Images in Computed Axial Tomography for
the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Diseases at the Hospital Universitario Dr. Alfredo Van Grieken
Service of Tomography in Coro from November through December of 2013. A record of
patients was used as an instrument, using the clinical histories from the Service of
Tomography to obtain information, with a descriptive study, it was found a number of 42
patients that requested the study. 21,4% of the sample entered the service with a diagnosis
of ILD. All patients have a simple thorax reconstruction. 23,8 % of the sample does not
show High Resolution reconstruction. 76,2 % have High Resolution images, where 61,9 %
exhibit images in both windows, 9,52 % have lung window images, and 4,8 % have
mediastinal window images. It is recommended to limit the HTCAT exclusively for patients
with micropulmonary diseases; that the doctor had criteria for the request of exploration;
demand studies prior to the HTCAT.
