Description of Lesson: By developing skills to seek concepts once the ground

is toned and once a few marks are made, students will create a work of art that will
consist of utilizing the additive and reductive technique to create a creative
concept.

Lesson Title: Drawing with Fire (Lesson 4 of Drawing with Fire Unit)
Curricullum Standards Addressed:
VA: Cr2.1.llla Experiment, plan, and make multiple works of art and design that
explore a personality meaningful theme, idea, or concept.
VA: Pr4.1llla Critique, justify, and present choices in the process of analyzing,
selecting, curating, and presenting artwork for a specific exhibit or event.
VA: Re8.1llla Analyze differing interpretations of an artwork or collection of works in
order to select and defend a plausible critical analysis.

observation as they are working
independently and will receive a
grade for their completed
drawing with fire work of art.
Students should be able to
execute their work of art safely
and correctly. Their ability to do
the procedure safely will greatly
affect their grade, along with
development and conceptual
creativity.

Materials/Resources:

Candle (for each student)


Lighter
Thick, durable water color paper
Prismacolors, oil pastels and other various media

Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge):

Social: Students should be able to work quietly in a group setting. Students should
be able to focus and create their own independent piece of work.
Cognitive: Students should be able to understand that they need to develop a
concept by using the drawing with fire.
Physical: Students should be able to use all materials correctly and safely. When
drawing with fire, students should follow instructions precisely to avoid losing points

of their grade.
Emotional: Students should be able to work separately on their own work without
copying or getting offended by others.

Procedures:
Instructor will provide a safety demonstration and then a procedural
demonstration for students to understand the steps to be taken to create
their own work of art.
This project will have minimal instruction to allow students to fully develop a
concept on their own.
Once students are finished with their work of art, they will have the choice of
how they want to prep it for presentation.
Students will then take all works of art from this unit and create a display to
be critiqued over by peers.
Accommodations:

For the students who miss the demonstration, the instructor will provide a mini
demonstration. For students who finish early, they will be encouraged to further
work their concept and take it to the next level. Students who may work slower than
intended will be encouraged to work promptly. If needed, an extension will be added
if needed for slower working students. For students who have a hard time paying
attention or struggle with participation, the instructor will suggest that students
focus on their own work. Excessive chatter or distractions will not be tolerated.
