Summary: The purpose of this PowerPoint is to help the students recognize
the events that led to the American Revolution.
Learning Objective: Given the events, the students will be able to create a
timeline on the events that led to the American Revolution with 5 out 6
Rubric.

Revolution Began

The Stamp Act


1765
Tax was put on the American colonies by the British
They had to pay taxes on items such as:
Newspapers

Legal documents
Magazines
This helped pay for the damage the French and Indian
War had caused
Colonists felt that it was unfair
They protested and refused to pay

Tea Act 1773


Taxes on tea
Tea was taxed at the source (India)
This allowed the tea to be exported directly to
the colonist merchants
Colonist could only purchase the from the East
India Trading Company
The colonist were suspicious of the British
motives so this lead to the Boston Tea Party

Boston Tea Party


December 16, 1773 colonist would not let the ships carrying tea dock
Samuel Adams led a meeting earlier that day over the taxation of tea
They protested and refused to pay taxes on the tea, colonist asked for the tea to be
taken away

They dressed as Mohawk Indians and boarded 3 ships

Threw 342 chest of tea over board, 90,000 pounds, that equals about 1 million dollars

116 people participated in the Boston Tea Party

Then back at your desk, write 4 facts on each

Summary
You have just learned several events that led to the American
Revolution
Proclamation of 1763, Stamp Act, Townshend Act, Tea Act
which led to the Boston Tea Party, and Coercive Act
Slogan used during this time was No Taxation without
Representation
The 13 colonies wanted to lead their own people and no longer
be ruled by King George III
After the French and Indian War these acts were created
Conflict was brought about between the British and colonist as
the events took place
