3rd Grade Lesson Plan (2/23-24)


1. Rhythms

TEKS: 117.12. Music, Grade 3; 3.4(a)- The student creates and arranges music
within specified guidelines. The student is expected to create rhythmic phrases.
Objective: The student will reproduce and review rhythms by echo clapping
and reading notation off of rhythm cards.
Materials: Rhythm Cards
A. Echo Patterns

Teacher will clap and say rhythms


- Combinations of quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes
Students will echo back

B. Rhythm Cards

Teacher will hold rhythms cards
- Combinations of quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes

Students will clap and say rhythms on cards

Transition: Teacher will go into second activity.


2. Notate Sixteenth Notes
TEKS: 117.12. Music, Grade 3; 3.3C- The student is expected to write music
notation, using a system.
Objective: The student will label sixteenth notes through the use of letters,
numbers, and symbols.
Materials: Dry erase board, dry erase marker.

Teacher will draw a horizontal line on the boards


Teacher will divide class into 4 groups
Teacher will explain activity
- In our groups, each person will come up and draw sixteenth
notes.
Students will come up to board and notate sixteenth notes.
- Once you are done go back to your spot and sit quietly.

Transition: Teacher will start singing Love Somebody.

3. Love Somebody

TEKS: 117.12. Music, Grade 3; 3.2A- The student is expected to sing or


play a classroom instrument independently or in groups.
Objective: The student will apply the pulse to sixteenth notes through
the use of singing and playing on instruments.
Materials: Barred Instruments.
A. Learning Song

- Teacher will list to words and rhythm, making sure it is clear
and accurate.

- Teacher will assist.
B. Add Actions to Song

Teacher will sing Ms. 1-4 of song with actions
- Pat on Love during Love somebody.
- Clap ti-ti-ta during Yes I do!

- Clap ti-ti-ta during Yes I do as well as wont tell who!

C. Adding Instruments

Teacher will demonstrate the song on barred instruments
- If you are at the barred instruments you will substitute the
pats on two Ds One in youre right and the other in your
left.
- Teacher will demonstrate with song while students sing and
perform body percussion

Teacher will demonstrate song on non-pitched instruments

If you are on the non-pitched instruments you will substitute


the claps for the instrument you are on.

Students will perform song on instruments

Transition: Teacher will start the Quiet Game and have students return to
their assigned spots.
