Seguin High School Lesson Plan: Warm-up (3/23-27)

TEKS: 117.60. Music, Level I, 2A- The student sings or plays an instrument, individually and
in groups, performing a varied repertoire of music. The student is expected to demonstrate
independently and in ensembles accurate intonation and rhythm, fundamental skills, and basic
performance techniques while performing moderately easy to moderately difficult literature.
Objective: The student will reproduce warm-up exercises through the demonstration of the
teacher.
Materials: Metronome, strobe tuner.

Warm-up Sequence
1. Concert F Whole Notes
a) Teacher will explain start of notes
- Make sure to start with the tongue on every note. Use ta.
- Make sure to also subdivide before playing each note so we all start together as
well during the notes so we can cut off at the same time.
b) Students will play whole notes on concert F
- Teacher will listen to entrances, cut off points, and balance between instruments.
- Teacher will have students perform whole notes as many times necessary.
2. Remington
a) Teacher will explain articulations in the exercise
- Remember there are two types of articulations to be done: a tongue start and a
slur. Start with the tongue at the beginning and blow your air across the slur so
that there is no stop in the sound between pitches.
b) Students will play Remington exercise starting on concert F all the way down to Bb
(P5 down from F).
- Teacher will conduct and listen for any errors
c) Students will play Remington exercise starting on concert 5 all the up to Bb (P4 up
from F).
3. Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth, Triplet, and Sixteenth Notes
a) Teacher will model whole note
b) Students will play whole note
c) Teacher will model half notes
d) Students will play half notes

Teacher will model a full value quarter note


Students will play a full value quarter note
Teacher will model a marcato style quarter note

Teacher will model staccato eighth notes
Students will play staccato eighth notes
Teacher will model full value triplets

Teacher will model sixteenth notes
Students will play sixteenth notes

Have metronome on quarter notes. Once band reaches eighth notes turn the eighth note on.
Once band reaches triplets turn on the triplets. Once band reaches sixteenth notes turn the
eighth note back on.
