Wondering about Wuthering
Burt, Daniel S. "Wuthering Heights." The Novel 100: A Ranking of the Most
Influential Novels
of All Time, Revised Edition. New York: Chelsea House Publishing, 2010.
Bloom's
Literature. Facts On File, Inc. Web. 9 Nov. 2014.
Burts article does not offer much criticism, but more analysis and
background on Wuthering Heights and how Emily Bronts life
influenced her writing. Burt explains why Wuthering Heights became a
classic with critic reviews from the 19th century instead of his own
thoughts. When the novel was first released, it was criticized for
having little structure, but is now highly acclaimed. Burt provided
many fascinating facts about Bronts home life and influences;
however, he never added his own opinions.

masterpiece, popular and common outlooks have influenced Burts
vague and scarce opinions. Burts article was useful and helpful for
understanding the main plots and scenarios of the book, but never

of death. Polhemus believes that the novel brings up crucial and
critical issues that revolve around the time period of Bronts life.
Polhemuss review was lopsided, for he did not nearly discuss love as
much as death, and perhaps wrote more about religion and death than
love and death. Polhemus had very insightful points, speculations, and
opinions regardless of his misleading title about what the article would
be about. He provided his own reviews and thoughts in an organized
manner, creating an overall helpful criticism on Wuthering Heights.
Paddock, Lisa, and Carl Rollyson. "Bront, Emily." The Bronts A to Z: The
Essential
Reference to Their Lives and Work, Literary A to Z. New York: Facts On
File, Inc.,
2003. Bloom's Literature. Facts On File, Inc. Web. 9 Nov. 2014.
Paddock and Rollyson deliver the most evidence known about Emily
Bronte and her short life. She died very young at age 30 from
tuberculosis, had five siblings, had many of her journal entries
destroyed, was known as a tomboy character by locals, and adored
animals. She wrote much about death and her sister described that
Emily anticipated death more than she accepted it. Little is known

about Emily Bront, but it is apparent that she was a very smart,
strong-willed, and independent woman.

Heights is seen as a very dark novel with Catherine and Heathcliffs
love being the only light in the novel, when in fact their love can be
considered the darkest of themes throughout the whole book.
