Eco-day celebration: Celebration of World Wetlands Day by participating in Flamingo watch at

Chilkur in back waters of Gandipet/ Osmansagar lake, Hyderabad - K Amrutha Lakshmi

I visited the Back waters of the Gandipet/ Osmansagar tank at the village Chilkur near
Hyderabad on 3/2/2015. There are about 100 + greater flamingos in the lake. There were about
30 Black ibis , around 100 Bar headed geese, about 15 - 20 spoon bills , coots , approximately
50 spot bill ducks and equal number of black winged stilts , sea gulls(?) and a wood sand piper
and a ringed plover besides four grey herons, around 8 to 10 painted storks and a couple of little
egrets.
All the above birds are reported since the early January and are continuing there i.e., until
3/2/2015, as there is no disturbance of any kind. The area is very isolated and peaceful.
