To Whom It May Concern:

Julia Ruggirello presents herself as a natural and dedicated teacher, and I have had the privilege of
working closely with her since fall semester of 2014 as her supervising field instructor. Julia
completed her internship in Grosse Pointe Public Schools at Maire and Kerby Elementary while
earning her Learning Disabilities Special Education certification and endorsement in Social Studies
(6-8) at Michigan State University in the spring of 2015. Julia is exceptional in a variety of ways.
Julia has a great command of subject matter. She taught 5th grade Social Studies, Language Arts and
Mathematics. She is knowledgeable in creating and implementing successful lessons. She is always
well organized and prepared to teach. Julia creates meaningful activities to engage students and
support Common Core objectives.
Julia is passionate about teaching and using strategies to assist students in improving their academic
and social skills. She makes real connections that are specific to each student. Julia naturally creates
a positive learning community for her students. She is warm and nurturing, and students respect her
as a teacher and person. She does a beautiful job of connecting content to real life and prior learning.
Julia validates student responses and positively interacts with all students. She creates fun activities
and provides modeling and guided practice to help students move toward independence.
Julia chose her profession well! She has a great teacher presence and voice. She is confident and
effective with classroom management. Julia provides good visuals and asks appropriate questions to
promote thoughtful discussions. Her lessons go smoothly, and she uses a variety of whole group
participation strategies to engage all students.

MSU is an affirmative-action,
equal-opportunity employer.

Julia is a valued member at Maire and Kerby Elementary. Julia has collaborated with general
education teachers to support students with long term projects. She is involved in assisting students to
best meet their needs with the general education curriculum for all academic areas. She attends staff
meetings, Wired Differently Conference, Woodcock Johnson IV training, grade level meetings, and
Diversity committee meetings. She helped in starting a peer to peer program. Julia was involved in
testing several students for an initial evaluation, and she took part in the total process. Julia attended
special education meetings (REEDs, METs, and IEPs), and she wrote and presented at a student's IEP
along with participating in progress monitoring students' IEP goals documenting their growth using
Aimsweb software. She communicated with parents through emails and conferences. These
professional strengths Julia demonstrates on a daily basis will certainly be an asset to any school.
Julia presents herself as an excellent role model, and she works hard to create a warm, nurturing
learning community for students. Julia is good on her feet, confident, enthusiastic, and genuine. She
is well liked and respected by her students. I have worked closely with Julia since August 2014. I
highly recommend Julia for any teaching position. Best to you Julia as you venture into an amazing
teaching career!
Sincerely,
Paula Pritchard/MSU Field Instructor/(Cell) 248.0404/pritch45@msu.edu
