Guiding Question: In What Ways do Crystals Influence Human Energy?

Senior Project Paper, Spring 2015, Jenna Goldstrom

Western medicine, the practice of healing with drugs, doctors, prescriptions and outside
recourses and medicines, is one of the greatest innovations ever to exist for human civilization.
Given its great and many successes, however, we as a population have come to learn more and
more about it and what using modern medicine does. Whats been re-discovered and is gaining
an increasingly respected foothold in our nation and the worlds medicine is the opposite
direction from a health system weve relied on for so long; Holistic Healing through preventative
medicine. This aims are the complete counter to our norm of Western Medicine, and it works
using healthy habits practiced daily to avoid illness in a physical body rather than what were
used to, which is a sort of deal with it when we get to it approach to ailments. This traditional
method has been used for a long portion of humanities existence across cultures, especially in
places like China, Tibet, and the Americas pre-colonization and imperialism. While its quite
controversial and frequently talked down by a lot of Western Medicine practitioners, it does have
its deserved merits with such things as acupuncture, massage, yoga, and even homeopathic
remedies that are becoming popularized and even recommended widely in our society. One of
the hardest facets of Eastern Medicine to gain a serious foothold in Western Medicine is
meditation with and preventative healing through specific energetically charged crystals and
other crystalized minerals. Crystals have been proven both effective and ineffective in the
healing of self, though its hard to say which perspective holds more truth given the
circumstances and criteria the basis for these supported judgments came from.

Its widely recognized in the more gullible pockets of the world that crystal healing is an
end-all cure to ailments, when in reality most serious crystal healers dont see it that way, despite
societys labeling of them as such advocates for that radical proposal. There are many ways to
restore with the energy and vibrations of a crystal, yet the head-strong critics usually point to the
people who literally say to place a crystal on a sick part of your body to soak up disease with it.
Where there is spiritual merit, however, there isnt scientific distinction that is widely accepted
by most scientists and society. Those blind-to-the-facts crystal-worshippers arent necessarily in
the right, and neither are the people who discount all crystal healing using the crystal extremists
as a representation for the entire practice. In my research, I looked at successful and nonsuccessful crystal healing methods, and the experiments that were done to discount those
methods at all costs. Having dissected those sources I came to some interesting conclusions
myself, and connected a lot of crystalized dots.
The books that I purchased at Northern Lights, a Holistic Health and Spiritual bookstore,
were highly recommended as beginner, bias-less books to cover the basics of crystal healing.
One was science and logistics heavy while the other was straightforward in its healing and
spiritual content. From their structure to their spiritual properties, crystals and crystalized
minerals are easily some of the most geologically and metaphysically fascinating forms on Earth.
Each crystal starts where it specifically is created, from heat and pressure in the core of our
planet. Different heat and pressure in different mineral pockets of earth are where and how
crystals are formed. The different conditions by which they are created in these climates
determine their structure, color, and the minerals by which they form are what determine their
shapes. All these variables work together closely and carefully in order to sculpt a crystalline
rock basically.

Like all rocks, crystals are either igneous (primary) rocks, or formed by magma,
weathered down from that to be sedimentary rocks (secondary) or encounter metamorphosis to
become, or come from, metamorphic (tertiary) minerals. These categories determine mineral
makeup, physical shape, and the total creation of the rocks that bore the crystal. However, rock
shape is not what defines the crystal systems, or the geometric patterns that rule the shaping of
crystal formation. Each geometrically consistent shape determines crystal vibrations and relate
directly to our everyday lives and personalities in the metaphorical and tangible shape of our
lives.
According to the basic tenants of crystals regarding spirituality, each person indirectly or
directly follows a pattern of life that is dictated by the personality traits assigned to certain
common geometric signs that also adhere to crystal structure. Each crystals structure influences
its physical shape and vibrations is a structure that is mirrored in the literal and metaphorical
habits of different personalities of humans. It goes without saying that each and every single
person doesnt perfectly fit into a specific crystal structure, but there are things that are important
in defining these traits when searching for crystals to benefit self.
All of this information I derived from Crystal Power Crystal Healing by Michael
Gienger. It was first published in 1998, and is as bias-less as a book about healing with crystals
can be. It doesnt state any of this as proven and 100% true datum, and it doesnt claim to be the
tried and true answer for every problem a person can have. In fact, it totally discredited a myriad
of common misconceptions regarding crystals, which critics usually use as an example for the
entire practice, such as it curing cancer or other terminal illnesses/ physical disadvantages a
person may be trying to work to heal by other more modern medicines. You cant slap a crystal
on your tumor, no matter how akin its structure is to your life and personality, and expect to be

100% healthy right away. Any actual crystal healer with half a brain could tell you that and mean
it. In fact, in the book Pranic Crystal Healing by Master Choa Kok Sui, published in 1996, there
is listed a lengthy list of physical conditions that would inhibit the ability of a crystals spiritual
properties to help heal and could potentially send any progress backwards, which includes a
person being pregnant, having leukemia, a tumor, or cancer. The relationship between the
chakras, physical illness, and crystal structures are said to aggravate the condition because of
the activation that arises in the lower chakras, which inflame when sick, and are inflamed even
more so by the presence of charged crystals. Charged crystals are unique in the fact that they are
intentionally influenced by human energy, which can wipe a crystal of vibration and/or sort of
refill it or charge it with more energy for specific guidance. It was instructed how to in Master
Choa Kok Suis book.
In order to counter the fixed opinions of the books that I read about crystal healing, I also
read several articles, many bringing valid counter-claims and opposing perspectives to the table.
While these were all phrased with apparent bias and laden with predisposed and set estimations,
it was an interesting journey into the sceptics logic. Both of the articles got most of their
conclusions from a single experiment done in England in the early 2000s that apparently
completely discounts crystal healing. It was trying to prove that crystals cause no healing or
anything else physically in the human body by having 80 experimenters, half holding fake
crystals while the original half had actual ones, and testing them for a bodily reaction. The only
thing they got were vague placebo warmth in the hands that the experimenters held the crystals
in. What this article said to be proving was that one had to be primed or influenced by the
power of pre-emptive suggestion for anything to happen with crystals, and that nothing really did
occur that wasnt a placebo. I believe the experiment to be inconclusive due to the low number of

experimenters, the bias and misconceptions that it was going off of, and the clear prejudice from
the beginning, but it was still interesting for me. While it was saying that obviously crystals
cant cure cancer, no one in the crystal healing world really thinks they directly do either, so its
not really proving anything to anyone whos in the know. Not only was the experiment done
poorly and proved nothing, but it was the only experiment that either of the nay-saying websites
referenced at all. Theres similar experiment done in the past, but really most of the ones I
learned about had very clear partiality from the get go. Either they were set out to prove crystals
as energetic forces or disprove that very thing.
Given my own bias, I did have a hard time taking some of the very critical articles
seriously since they really were laden with very opinionated speech without taking a single thing
their opposition said seriously. With that said, a lot of pro-crystal healers do have bias, but most
admitted that it is something that will only work if you believe it. With something as subjective
and personal as spiritual healing, whatever forms it happens to take, most real practitioners admit
that you have to know within yourself that it works for it to work. Its comparable to therapy. If
you dont think that talking to someone can help you work out your inner turmoil, then seeing a
therapist will have no benefit on your life. Same for crystals, which can be whatever you want
them to be, as you see fit and for your individual needs and desires.

My favorite book, this I got as reference to crystals healing directly. Master Choa Kok Sui
is one of the most prolific Pranic Healing leaders of our time and is very renowned in the
world of Holistic Healing and modern Eastern medicine. This book was helpful in teaching
me exactly how to heal with crystals and all the most important considerations for that.
