Art Activity Time Line

Day 1 - Introduction: 15 min.
The teacher will start off by saying For this project we are going to find
someone in the classroom that we may not know very well, or someone that we dont
talk that much to. So I would like everyone to walk around the room and find that
person that you would like to talk to more. They will now be your neighbors!
We will arrange the classroom so the students are in a line, or square.
Tell the students the name of the project and what they will be doing and what
is expected.
Explain all the materials that will be used and how they will be used for the
project.
Demo: 10 min.

Large pieces of
black construction
paper

Boxes of crayons

Brown paper
towel

Equipment
-

A crayon stencil

stock
Tape

Visuals

drawing done by the

The teacher will then give a short demo on how the project will be created.
Each student will get a black sheet of paper and a crayon stencil and a box of
crayons
With their partners on both sides of the students then need to come to an
agreement on how to lay out their crayons and what color they will be.
They will each trace two-three crayons onto their paper, leaving room for two
more halves of a crayon on each side
Once they have each traced their 2 or 3 crayons they will go to each one of
their neighbors, place their pieces of paper together and trace a crayon so it is
now half on each partners paper. Then turn to the other neighbor and do it
again.
Once they have done that they will decide with each neighbor what color they
are going to use on their connecting crayons.
After they all have deciding on their crayons colors they can continue to pick
the colors to their other crayons.
5 min. Clean up
Day 2

Day 3

5 min. Set up classroom and get artwork set up.

Once that is done I will help them get started on their first crayon.
They will start with a white crayon drawing in the highlights that will consist of
a line down the entire crayon and then on the tip
After that is done they will color in the part of the crayon that is the wrapper.
That will be a shade lighter than they picked.
Questioning time if needed
After that is done they will fill in the crayon part with the color they picked.
The next step is to draw in the label.
They will start with an oval and write the word Crayola on it then fill it in to
match the label on their crayon.
5 min. Clean up
5 min. Set up classroom and get artwork set up.
They will now be moving on to draw the lines on the wrapper.
I will show them some tricks in making their crayons look smooth and nice by
using brown paper towel to rub with.
Closure:
Once all of the students have finished their drawings they will tape them
together with their neighbors.
5 min. Clean up
The project is now ready to be hung as a mural in the hallways of the school.
