Not

so good exam paragraph on pathos:

Aristotle has 3 modes of appeal: pathos which is empathy; logos which is logic; and
ethos, which is credibility. Ms. Jackson uses the pathos appeal showing she truly is
sorry and will do everything to make him a happy subscriber.

A better exam answer on pathos:

There are three modes of appeal that Aristotle believed took place in any type of
rhetorical communication. These three modes are: logos, pathos, and ethos, and all
three connect to the scenario in some way, shape, or form. [] Secondly, the mode of
appeal known as pathos is in Jills letter. Pathos is the way in which a speaker
interacts with an audience (John). Jill was not expressive in her communication with
John Smith or self-centred, but rather she took the time to address the problem at
hand, respectfully apologized to John, and asked for ways in which she could resolve
the problem. Jill must deliver a message that has been written due to a negative
occurrence (missing subscription), but does so in a way that establishes a positive
relation with her audience, John.
