Community Service Summary
During service work for the Dixie State University Radiography program I learned about
planning, advocating, delegating and involvement in educational and community service. My
service work involved helping the community, creating the Dixie State University Radiologic
Technologist Association Club and performing the president responsibilities of the club. I helped
plan many events involved with Dixie State including: The Week of Welcome Carnival (5 hours),
Freshman Business Expo (3 hours), Campus to Community Service Projects (2 hours), and The
Great Race (4 hours). Each of these events took preparation time to inform club members of the
event, delegate duties, oversee the completion of tasks, be present at the event and answer
questions of the club members. I relayed messages from the Dixie State Inter-Club Council to
class members about each of these events. Also, communication via email to club members took
place with each event to organize schedules. I enjoyed the Freshman Business Expo because I
informed students of the Radiology club and program. I was able to reflect on why I chose this
career path and share that passion with others.
Another responsibility was to give weekly announcements in class from the DSU InterClub Council. This kept my club members involved with the University and the educational,
networking, and professional amenities that are offered. Also, I assigned different club members
to represent our club at Inter-Club Council meetings held every other week during the semester.
These representatives would then report back to me any important relevant news totaling two
hours of work over a couple semesters.
Community work I involved myself and the club with was volunteering at the St. George
Marathon. Our group was in charge of handing out thermal blankets to runners at the starting line
to keep warm before the race started. We also cleaned up clothes, trash, and food after the
runners left. This event started at 4AM and lasted six hours. It was a positive environment to be
surrounded by people about to accomplish a tremendous task. My planning for this event
involved obtaining a ride for about 10 people to the race and coordinating how my group would
help serve the runners. I also served the community by picking up trash with about 10 other
people around the Dixie Rock area. We were there for 1 hour and took the trash to dumpsters
afterwards. Visitors thanked us while we were serving exclaiming how nice it was to see others
taking care of the community.

A highlight of my service work was preparing and presenting a bill request to the DSU
Inter-Club Council and Senate for additional funding to attend a national radiography ACERT
Conference. The purpose of this bill was to ease the financial obligations for club members so
they could all attend a conference focused on our career. The preparation, research, and
contacting for writing the bill involved obtaining official costs and attendee numbers for the bill
proposal. After the bill was presented I discussed with DSU Senate investigators to clarify
questions about the bill. Having the bill approved after 10 involvement hours was an award for
my hard work and dedication.
I learned a great deal of leadership qualities after spending over 40 hours of service work.
The club president responsibilities required me to be well rounded and prioritize my time
throughout the program. I learned how to incorporate many different personalities and opinions
to reach one goal. I am grateful for this service work and how I have grown in several areas
because of it. I can see that by these experiences they will help me in my future career path to
continually perfect my abilities.
