Modern art has many notable attributes that display humanism.
Cyndi Laupers song, True Colors is an example of this. True Colors,
written in 1986, explains the value of self-worth and personal achievement. Lauper expresses that everyone should convey their individuality. This is the idea of personal achievement in the concept of humanism. This explains that all humans have worth and each should strive for success in many different aspects of life. The chorus, repeated throughout this pop song, goes as follows; And I'll see your true colors, shining through,, I see your true colors ,and that's why I love you, so don't be afraid to let them show. She wanted these boys and girls to have a healthy self-esteem, and feel confident to show their individuality. True Colors, also has no correlation or mention of the idea of a higher power. This is the idea of secularism, in the context of humanism. This explains the idea of a seperation between church and state, or religion and government. Before the idea of humanism, there were no art forms that didnt have a higher power, or some correlation to religion. The artists appearance, demeanor, and risque wardrobe choices were the epitome of the expressive individuality, rebellion, and a definition of culture of her time. She and other artists of her era also showed an impressive commitment to public service with large scale benifits to address things such as the AIDS epidemic (LiveAid Benifit) and later causes like helping farmers (FarmAid). She used her accomplishments to benefit the community. True colors, preformed by Cyndi Lauper, illustrated humanism.
