Standard #8: Instructional Strategies: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional
strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and
to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my EDUC 233 Literacy Development Through Literature course during the fall
semester of 2014, I completed an EBook. The story follows a little monkey who wants to learn to read.
The story tells of a way for children to go about learning; asking for help or sounding out the letters.

Analysis of What I Learned:

While creating this EBook, I learned of different methods of creating books and ways to convert
them. Through this, I learned how to create an impromptu book and how to tie lessons to those books. I
also learned about how much preparation it takes to prepare a book, even if it is short. I learned about a
new way to possibly increase a childs social emotional development, cognitive development, and how to
guide childrens behavior in a positive and meaningful way.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

InTASC Standard:
This book and its creation ability are considered an appropriate strategy and resource to adapt
instruction to the needs of certain individuals and groups of learners. The ability to create a book based on
lessons you want them to learn can engage learners by using a range of learning skills and technology
tools to access, interpret, evaluate, and apply information. This shows that I understand the cognitive
processes associated with various kinds of learning (e.g., critical and creative thinking, problem framing
and problem solving, invention, memorization and recall) and how these processes can be stimulated.
