How To Read and Use Your Compass

Important Tips Before Getting Started:
Be sure to take 3 or more readings, each time standing slightly further away from the previous
reading to ensure accuracy:
Take the first reading from just inside the front door looking out
Take the second reading about 3 feet inside the front door
Take a third reading from 15 feet inside the home looking out
Then take an average of the three readings and his will give you the reading of the main door
direction.
Make sure that you do not stand near a computer or magnetic appliances, your cell phone,
television or radio, as your compass reading will not be accurate.
When taking doorway directions you can press the perpendicular edge of the compass to the door
for accuracy.

Taking a Reading With Your Compass

Rotate the bezel such that the Red N and the Red portion
of the needle aligns. This indicates the magnetic North.
Ensure you do not move or rotate the compass when
you do this.
Hold your compass parallel to a level surface. The arrow
should be pointing towards the direction you intend to
take i.e. the entrance of the building.
The White notch on the fixed blue dial marks the exact
direction the compass is pointing at.
The Black numerals on the inner ring indicate the
24 mountains, so you can tell at a glance which
sub-sector of direction the door faces.
