Reflection of Observation: Fronts
The observation of my CT lesson started at 8:45am on a Tuesday. The students were
given a hand out, up front about weather. The students were instructed to work on this
individually at their desks. The students needed to cut, color, and glue facts and symbols onto the
worksheet to the correct front. After all students were working on this my CT noticed that it may
be difficult for some students so she allowed them to take out previous notes on the information
from yesterday. When the class started to have bad behavior my CT emphasized that this was
going to be taken up for a grade. At 8:52 my CT announced that the class had until 9 am to finish
and set a timer on the board. When it reached 9 oclock my CT took note that not most of the 16
students were not done and gave the class an extra fifteen minutes to complete the worksheet.
When it was 9:15 the CT collected the worksheets and put on a video about clouds. The CT
emphasized that the class should be taking notes during this time. She would also stop to and
make sure students had time to write down important information. After the video was done she
had the students complete their webquests from the previous week. These webquests are done on
the schools IPADS.
The worksheet can be found at http://www.theeducationcenter.com/editorial_content/up-frontabout-weather#/up-front-about-weather
Overall this was a lesson that in my perspective bounced around information. I think the
beginning with the worksheet was great but this worksheet covered fronts and then they watched
a video on cloud types. I did not see a smooth transition to this. I did however get to see that

even a professional has to accommodate for students needing more time on their work. I wish
there was more student-to-student interaction because I felt this lesson did not allow much time
for discussion. My CT was a great role model on disciplining her class and the way to speak to
fifth graders not acting their age. This was something my CT said a lot to the class, which I
liked. It allowed the class to notice that my CT expects them to act mature and their grade level.
Lastly, it was great to see how technology was used not only for the video but how enthusiastic
the class was when they were able to use the IPADs.
