Help her write the first letter of each toy’s name on a piece of paper. Then work with your young learner to tape the letters to the correct toy. Ona large piece of paper, write the five vowels in crayon. Ask your child to identify each letter and its sound. To reinforce writing skills, ask your child to trace each letter with his finger. Write consonants on pieces of posterboard. Help your child cut out pictures from a magazine, identify the initial sound of each picture, and then glue it next to the corresponding letter on the poster. Have your child tell you a story! Give her the names of four or five objects or animals and ask her to come up with an inventive story. By using these words in various sentences, she will strengthen her skills in language arts. Choose a “letter of the day” and, while you are riding in the car, ask your child to find and point out that letter on street signs and buildings. Encourage your child to name objects at home, tell what letter and sound the word begins with, and then print it on paper. Don't forget to visit your local library for some good alphabet books.
