Peace
In a world that is divided by nations, governments, and religions it is hard to find peace.
Would it not be great if a person could walk down the streets of Afghanistan and not be shot? If a
person could walk down the streets of Mexico and not be abducted and turned into a drug
trafficker? Why it is so hard to find peace even in the smallest places such as Myrtle Beach.
Peace leaders across the world have influenced their country even the world with their movement
of peace.
South Africa was a country ill by apartheid, a policy which allowed segregation or
discrimination by race. Nelson Mandela himself said, To deny people their human rights is to
challenge their very humanity (Williams). Mandela felt that everybody was born with the same
rights as the person next to you no matter what color your skin is or the dryness of your hair,
which are your human rights. A man who takes away another mans freedom is a prisoner of
hatred; he is locked behind the bars of prejudice and narrow-mindedness (Williams). It is mind
blowing if thought out by a peaceful mind. Treat people how you want to be treated and you will
soon receive it back with a smile.
The United States of America had the same problem before and even after the civil war.
The war was over if we should keep slaves or ban the property of humans (African Americans).

Martin Luther King Jr. fought a long fight for the rights or his own people. He did his work in
many different methods including speeches, peace marches, and even by law. The Constitution of
the United States promised every man is equal but was not enforced (Murray). In his famous
speech I Have a Dream Martin Luther King Jr. said, I have a dream that my four children will
one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by color of their skin but by the content of
their character (Murray). We can achieve peace if we could make this dream a reality. It will be
hard but it is up to you to say something!
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a man of great peace. Peace that brought economic
independence to India. This man did all his work through his nonviolent non-cooperation
campaign. He influenced future leaders to do the things he did for their countries. He was one of
the first to gain rights for his country through peaceful protesting the government. Gandhis
followers called him Mahatma (Sanskrit for the great-souled one) (Mohandas Ghandi) When
Mohandas was 19 he left home to go study law in London at the Inner Temple. Upon his arrival
to India he set up a law practice in Bombay, but met with little success. (Mohandas Ghandi)
He soon accepted a position with an Indian firm that sent him to its office in South Africa. Along
with his family they stayed in South Africa for nearly 20 years. Then he soon started his fight for
peace.
These peace leaders have influenced others across the world to take a stand for what they
believe in. There is nothing better than walking on this earth as brothers and sisters. We will one
day achieve this even if we have to fight for it. Thanks for the heads up Martin Luther King,
thanks Nelson Mandela, and thanks Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi!
