2015 Night of Spirit Catalog Cover Design

Anabel Pritchard won the Night Of Spirit's poster contest with her
wonderful design. Anabel is a 5th grader at Holy Spirit who loves
school, is an avid reader and fantastic writer.
Our runner up in the poster contest was 8th grader, Karissa Tschida.
Her design is featured on a page in our catalog. She recently
performed as one of the leads in this years school play.
Congratulations, Anabel and Karissa, on the fantastic Night of Spirit
designs for 2015!

Staff Investment Fund

The Staff Investment Fund is a fund that is distributed to the staff
of Holy Spirit for funding special projects designed to enhance
student learning. All funds raised are dispersed through a staffbased committee.

Updates on Recent Staff Investment

Projects
Mary Wollmering, Librarian/Media Specialist
Project: Purchase Two iPad Minis
Thanks to the generosity of the Holy Spirit community, the Mary
Library/Media Center received a grant from the 2013 Investment
Fund to purchase two iPad Minis.
These digital tools have allowed
for the creation of an active
learning community. Students
have learned collaboration,
critical thinking and problem
solving skills. As a result,
students have become more
engaged in their learning.

Amy Nelsen, Middle School Religious Studies

Project: Rediscover Catholicism Curriculum Development
The money was used to provide a substitute teaching coverage so
Mrs. Nelson could develop new curriculum based on the book
"Rediscover Catholicism". This curriculum will be used after the
8th grade has completed their study of Church History. The
question that is asked throughout our study of Church History is
"Why do we do what we do today as Catholics?" The goals for the
new units are to take what we have learned and apply them on a
basic level to our own lives by showing how at the core of our
Faith is a call to live an authentic life.
6

Dr. Mary Adrian, Principal

Project: Yoga Calm Program
The Staff Investment funds that I received are currently being
used to provide staff with tools they need to implement the Yoga
Calm program staff were introduced to in the fall. Our staff is
able to receive materials
(Hoberman Sphere, Chimes,
and a Resource Book) to
implement Yoga Calm
techniques in their classroom.
This project laid the foundation
for the implementation of our
Christian Meditation Program"

Mary Wollmering, Librarian & Media Specialist

The MakerSpace Movement Initiative
Librarian and Media Specialist, Mary Wollmering received a
grant to expand our makerspace opportunities for students at
Holy Spirit. Makerspaces are creative, hands on, do it yourself
spaces where students can gather to create, invent and learn. The
focus of this grant is to purchase materials to add STEAM-based
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) projects and
experiences.

Nicole Naumann, Middle School Language Arts Teacher

Teaching Non-Fiction
Language Arts teacher, Nicole Naumann received a grant to
expand the library of non-fiction materials for middle school. As
she stated in her application, Demands from todays society
require that students be literate in multiple genres. It is critical to
give nonfiction a primary place in our curriculum and to
encourage nonfiction reading and writing experiences with our
students. Since student choice greatly increases motivation, this
project would provide a variety of titles and subject areas for
students to explore." The materials purchased will include:
literary nonfiction, essays, biographies, autobiographies,
journals, technical manuals, charts, graphs & maps.
8

Rebecca Dennis-Johnson, 4-5 Grade Science Teacher

Engineering Design Project
Over the past few years, intermediate teacher, Rebecca DennisJohnson has been taking classes at the University of St. Thomas
on incorporating engineering concepts and practices into science
classes. Rebecca received a grant to purchase materials that will
address both science and math standards for intermediate
students. Students will learn about electromagnet energy, use
circuits to create alarms of various types, and many more exciting
engineering opportunities.

Dr. Jennifer Krieger

Playground Improvements
Dr. Jennifer Krieger received a grant to improve our playground
and recess opportunities for students. Her grant will be used to
replace broken items, install new basketball nets, purchase balls,
jump ropes and other items to enhance the positive &
constructive ways students can use their recess time.

Bar Tips & Specialty Cocktail

Fund-A-Need
Tonight, we will be applying all tips donated from the bar, and
proceeds from our newly added Specialty Cocktail toward
purchasing additional projectors for our childrens classrooms
that do not have them.

New for The Night of Spirit!

Orangetastic Specialty Cocktail
This year, we will be featuring a Special Cocktail Station (located
near the bar) offering a specialty cocktail with a souvenir cup to
purchase for $10. Please note, the cocktail station will only be
open from 5:30-7:30.
Beer, Wine, and non-alcoholic beverages will remain free and
available (tips appreciated!) at the bar throughout the evening
until midnight.

Fund-A-Need @ Live Auction

Lets have fun
raising the temp!
Last year we raised over $10,000 for Holy Spirit's Fund-A-Need
project, projectors for the classrooms. Five specially mounted
projectors were purchased and are in use!
The projectors improve
classroom interaction between
the students and the information
being presented by their
teachers. They make it easier for
students to take notes, and they
also allow teachers to present a
variety of different educational
material.
This years Fund-A-Need raised funds will purchase additional
projectors for our childrens classrooms that do not have them.
At the beginning of the live auction, please look for the special
donate button on your mobile device and help us again raise the
temp on our electronic thermometer display by raising the funds
to make this happen! If needed, please see the mobile bidding
section on page 19 for directions.
Please give what you can. No amounts donated are too small, nor too
big. What you donate is not shared with any other patron.
If you are bidding and donating from out of town on April 25th,
please feel free to make your $25-$1000 donation at any time before
9:30pm. US CDT.
Thank you!

Online Mobile Bidding!

Mobile Bidding at Night of Spirit provides many advantages:

Its easy if you can use an ATM, you can do it!

Bid from wherever you are

Get automatic text messages if you are outbid

Let the system bid for you to your maximum amount

Check the status of your bids at any time from anywhere

Quickly see what items you have won after each closing

NO MORE BID SHEETS!

Quicker start for Checkout

Mobile Bidding is easy to use and allows you to place your bid with a few
quick touches. (See the Mobile Bidding Quick Notes.)
You can use your own smartphone, tablet, or one of the many bidding
stations provided throughout the rooms. (If using your phone, remember
to charge it before coming to Night of Spirit!)
You can bid in two different ways:
1. Bid the traditional way by increasing the bid by the minimum
increase over the current amount, or
2. Enter a max bid amount. When you place a max bid, the
system first enters the current minimum increase and then bids
for you against other bidders until your max bid amount is
reached. This is ideal if you want to place a bid and not have to
check back to see if you are still the top bidder!
If you have any questions about Mobile Bidding, we will have volunteers
serving as "Bidding Assitants" available at the Night of Spirit. They will
help anyone who needs assistance.
If you cannot attend the Night of Spirit event but still want to get in on
the bidding, you can register for Online Bid Access Only, and still place
your bids for the online and silent auction items.
