Samantha took advantage of the opportunity she had to teach ESL classes by immersing herself in
the task of meeting the needs of students with widely varying language backgrounds and abilities.
She became knowledgeable about each of her students such that she was able to tailor her teaching
to their strengths, interests, and needsto their great advantage.

Comments:
This is an area of strength for Samantha. In addition to the academic adjustments she made to
meet the needs of her students, she took the time to get to know them on a personal level. The care
and kindness she exhibited led her students to trust her and work hard, despite the understandable
difficulties they may have had with the curriculum. She maintained a positive rapport throughout
her student teaching tenure.

Comments:
Samantha utilized a variety of strategies to assess her students understanding of what they had
been taught, including both formal and informal methodologies. For example, she used a simple,
engaging white board activity in which groups of students discussed, then shared, their answers to
questions she displayed on the screen. By noting their responses, she was able to directly assess in
the moment how well they remembered what had recently been taught. This served as an effective
review because she then strategically repeated questions about which the class as a whole had
appeared unsure. She also conducted more formal, term-end assessments after detailed review in
class.

behavior problems because students had both a rationale for what they are doing as well as an
awareness of what is coming up. She increasingly utilized both verbal and visual representations of
concepts in her presented lessons, which greatly aided her students of varying ability and language
levels.

Comments:
One of Samanthas strengths lies in her ability to adapt her teaching to the assessed needs of
individual students. She continuously checked for understanding by stopping at students desks,
looking at their work, asking them relevant questions, then making suggestions tailored to their
specific levels of understanding. This practice also allows her to note any misconceptions at their
inception and provide course-correcting information.

Comments:
Samantha is a reflective individual. She takes the time to look back at each lesson and think
critically about how things unfolded. Best of all, she uses the information she gains through this
process to improve her lessons and future plans. She is receptive to, even inviting of, suggestions,
which makes her a joy to work with.
