Lots of databases to choose from - the list is alphabetical. Databases that will be especially helpful
for biographical information are:
a. elibrary - only keyword search; but does include research topics that gives a biographical
summary with links to highlighted resources; includes feature to jump to best part of the
document to target relevant sections.
b. lnfoTrac Student Edition - has keyword or subject search; also allows you to search for a
specific article title - very helpful if you have citation from another article
c. New York Times - same structure as lnfoTrac
d. SIRS Renaissance or SIRS Discoverer - has keyword or subject search; easy access to
related subjects

Keyword vs. Subject searches

a.
b.

Keyword search returns results that include some or all of your search term anywhere in
the document. Also the person may not be the historical figure you are looking for, i.e.,
Billy Mitchell (military figure) vs. Billy Mitchell (computer programmer)
Subject search returns results that have been indexed forthe specific person you are
looking for, May not return as many results as keyword search. Not all words have a
subject index created for them; in that case many databases will switch to a keyword
search automatically.
