Increase prevention behaviors in
persons at high risk for diabetes with
prediabetes

ASSESSMENT FINDINGS
Lifestyle interventions in at risk
adults induced modest weight loss,
small improvements in glycemic
control and improved aerobic fitness
and dietary intake.

PLANNED INTERVENTION
Participants: faculty and staff at Harleton
High School.
4 hours screening and providing education
to 25 participants.
Overcoming Barriers
Provide easy access to diet and
exercise recommendations
Provide several options for exercise
Provide Diabetes Support Group
information
Measuring the Impact
Risk assessment tool, Blood pressure,
weight, and glucose checks done prior to
interventions.
Education on diabetes and diet and
exercise recommendations provided.
Ideally, diet and exercise changes would
be implemented by participants over an
extended period of time, and risk tool,
blood pressure, weight, and glucose
level reevaluated to show decreased risk
of diabetes and better overall health.

CONCLUSIONS
My population included adults ages
25-55. Assessment findings revealed
individuals at increased risk for the
development of diabetes through the
use of a risk assessment tool, blood
pressure, glucose level, and weight
evaluation. Recommended
interventions include proper diet,
aerobic exercise, and resistance
training.
