Lesson Plan Videotaped lesson plan

Date:
3/9/15 - 3/10/15
3B
Strengths of the Class:

Grade and Period: 9th grade

Strengths of the Class: For the most part the students in the following are good students. I have a few
students who need extra support and need more attention. The breakdown of the classes as follows.
42 students
8 ELLs
2 are lower level 3 and below
Other 6 are level 4 and above
3 students with IEPs
Unique Needs of the Class: This class is a very talkative class. They require more of a push to make sure
they continue to work and stay on task. For the most part I have a very good rapport with the students in the
class. They are generally a good class and work very hard when they are on task.
Subject: Oceans
Curriculum Standards: Standard IV: Students will understand the dynamics of the hydrosphere.
Objective 2: Analyze the characteristics and importance of freshwater found on Earths surface and
its effect on living systems.
Lesson Topic: Students will be working on their ocean power points. They are developing a power point to
discuss many factors and evidence about
Homework (if any) from previous day: no homework unless students didnt finish the work in class.
Content Objectives for the Lesson: Students will learn about the different factors that affect their three
different marine species. Some of those factors are abiotic, biotic, and other life challenges.
Learning Objectives for the lesson: Students will have a greater understanding of both abiotic and biotic
factors. They will also understand how hard it is for marine life to survive. Also the positive and negative
impact humans have on their chosen animal habitat.
Language Objectives for Students: SWBAT create a power point with details about how three different
marine species live, reproduce, and face lifes challenges. SWBAT synthesize a plea for action poster based
upon an article.
Starter: the starter for today is to ask students how their project is coming along and to ask a few questions
about abiotic and biotic factors.
Class Procedures:
Take roll
Grab laptop
Work on google power point
Once finish students will work on their plea for action.
Class Work (Questions/Activities):
PowerPoint presentations
Plea for action poster

Plans for Assessment: They will be assessed at the end of the unit. I will be walking around and engaging
them on a one to one level. They will also show their presentations to the class. I have created a rather
large rubric that will be used to grade them. Students will then work on the plea for action poster.
Homework: No homework unless students didnt finish the plea for action poster.
Plans for Enrichment For example, those who complete lessons early: They will begin to do second
assignment. The second assignment consists of reading and article and creating a poster. This poster is a
plea for action poster. Students will choose an article about something that is happening in the ocean. For
example, pollution, warming of the ocean, shark finning, and erosions of beaches.
Plans for Remediation For example, those in need of additional support: Those who need support I will be
able to offer them one on one instruction. They also have a few days to get everything turned in and I think
by allowing them the chance to redo and fix slides they will do better.
Plans for English Language Learners: I have printed out a Spanish version of the project and poster rubric.
I have also given them the opportunity to present their project in their native tongue if they choose. But the
power point must be in English. I feel that they can get over the hurdle of having to speak in English, but
they are still able to show me what they know.
Reflection: This lesson has a lot of advantages as a teacher. I feel that because this unit will be three weeks
long students will have the opportunity to really focus down and put in a lot of quality effort. Today was
this classes first day of doing actual work on their presentations. Last lesson students visited the library
were they did initial research on their marine animals. For the most part students found their marine
animals I had a few try to pass off terrestrial based animals. I think next time I do this I will be more
specific about what I am looking for. Maybe do a slide show with animals and ask students land or ocean
animal.
