High School/Junior High Badminton Unit Plan- 45 Minute Classes

Class 1- Grip/Rallying
A10-5, D10-3, D10-1

Intro: Grip Relay Race:

Relay
race where students race down the
court, showcasing proper grip
technique.

Body: Demo: Demonstrate the


ready position to students.
Ready Position: Students
demonstrate the ready position by
finding a location on court.
Demo: Demonstrate how to grip
and move racquet when trying to
keep shuttle in air.
Self-Rally: Students rally in place,
than progress to rallying while
moving.
Partner Rally: Students rally,
underhand shots, over the net with
a partner

Class 2- Long
Serve/Clears
A10-5, D10-3

Intro: Shuttle Relay:


Students race shuttles out, than
race them back in again.

Body: Demo: Demonstrate the


long serve to students.

Long Serve Practice:

Students
first demonstrate the long serve
technique in a dry run. Than
students serve across net into
hoops.
Demo: Demonstrate the clear
shot to students.
Long Serve+Clear: Students
practice serving deep to their
partner, who returns it with a clear.
Runaround Badminton: Drill
where students clear the shuttle,
than run to the other side and clear
again (continuous).

Class 5- Forehand
Smash

Class 6- Serving
Skills Test

Intro: Dynamic Stretch:

Intro: Rally Relay:

Students participate in a teacher


led dynamic stretch focusing on
lower body stretches.

Students
compete in a relay where they must
keep a shuttle in the air while
running, than finish by
demonstrating a serve.

Class 3- Short
Serve/Drop
Shots

Intro: Quick Feet Fitness:


Students perform quick feet fitness.

Body: Demo: Demonstrate the


short serve to students.

Short Serve Practice:

Students
first demonstrate the short serve
technique in a dry run. Than
students practice serving across net
into hoops.
Demo: Demonstrate the correct
form and technique for net play.

Class 4- Recap Skills


A10-5, D10-3

Intro: Number Call:

Students race
to move shuttles when their number is
called.

Body: Badminton Golf: Students


play badminton golf, trying to achieve
the lowest score possible. (Ongoing- 45 Rounds Total)
Jai La: One point games, where the
winner of a rally stays on the court, and
the loser has to try again, or choose
another line.

Half Court Singles Game:


Students play games against one
another using only half of the court.

Short Serve+Drop Shots:


Students practice short serving to
their partner, who returns with a
drop shot.
Drop Shot Games: Students
play against one another, where the
only way to win a point is to land
the shuttle in between the net and
the short service line.

Class 7- All Skills

Class 8- All Skills

Intro: Quick Feet Fitness:

Intro: Number Call:

Students perform quick feet fitness.

Body: Runaround
Badminton Elimination:

Students
race to move shuttles when their
number is called.

Body: Badminton Horse:

participate in a serving skills test.


Elimination: Rally game where
teams play 4 vs 4. If a team wins a
rally, they gain a player (max 4)
and if they lose the rally, they lose
a player.
Doubles Games: Students play
timed doubles games for 2 minutes

Students compete in runaround


badminton, but students who are
responsible for ending the rally are
eliminated.
Badminton Golf: Students play
badminton golf, trying to achieve
the lowest score possible.
(Ongoing- 4-5 Rounds Total)
Doubles Games: Students play
doubles games up to 7 points, with
the winning team staying on.

Students play a game of HORSE, instead


of a basketball basket they use a hoop
instead.
Four Square Drop Shots: Students
play four square, where the object is to
land a shot in one of the other 3
opponents squares.
Jai La: One point games, where the
winner of a rally stays on the court, and
the loser has to try again, or choose
another line.
