Welcome Families!

I am so very excited to be working with you in the coming school

year! Seussville Elementary is one of the best schools in the world!
This year, I look forward to learning from students and their families,
embracing and fostering a sense of community within our classroom.
I believe that communication between families and the classroom
teacher is vital for student success! Feel free to contact me with any
comments or questions throughout the year. My door is always open!

This is my first year teaching! I

recently graduated from
Nipissing University in North
Bay where I obtained a degree in
English and History and a
bachelor degree in Primary and
Junior Education. Growing up in
the Wellington County area for
my entire life, I am excited to be
working here full time! It is truly
a great community, with
wonderful people and sights! I
love reading, hiking and
volunteering at the Wellington
County Museum. I am
committed to lifelong learning,
where I can continue to become
the best teacher I can be!

FALL 2016

Tribes Learning Communities

Our classroom is a Tribes Learning
Community. Tribes is an exciting program
where students for over thirty years have
benefited from the life skills (collaboration,
respecting others, diversity), built right into the
classroom atmosphere and Ontario curriculum.
Over the next month, we will be learning about
the four agreements (see left picture). Look out
for our plays illustrating the four agreements for
the Open House! Be sure to ask your child about
community circle and our ever-popular
energizers! I am excited for Barnyard Babble the
last week of September more on that in the
next newsletter! J

Literacy Corner
In Literacy this month, we will be beginning the
Daily 6 (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word
Wizard, Listen to Read, Genius Hour and Guided
Reading). Refer to the Literacy Newsletter for more
information on the Daily 5!
This months Read-Aloud is Wonder by R.J.
Palacio. We are also following everyday with the
companion book, Mr. Brownes Precepts, where we
will be discussing an inspirational quote each day
and responding to it during community circle.
Persuasive writing and understanding text forms
will also be a highlight this month.
Also this year, students will be writing in their
Gratitude Journals as they first come in in the
morning. I believe that if students start their day
thankful, it will make their day more positive right
from the start! Consider starting your own
Gratitude Journals use it as a conversation starter
between you and your child!

FALL 2016

The Arts and Phys. Ed.

Maniac Math and Superstar Science

In visual arts, we will be looking at Picasso,

as well as have some fall-related art! I am
also excited to announce that we will be
making pottery in a workshop at the
beginning of October (more info to come!)!
We will be preparing for the workshop over
the course of this month!
In Drama and Dance, we will be looking
at developing character from the inside out,
through Readers Theatre and our plays on
the 4 Tribes Agreements. In honour of
Autumn, we will be having a Country
Hoedown with Line and Square Dancing
throughout our unit! Look for special
information to see how YOU can join us in
the coming weeks!
In Physical Education we will be working
on our soccer skills! Throughout the month,
we will be learning the skills and rules of the
beautiful game. I cant wait! J

Math this month is going to be a blast! J First

off is a few rounds of Are You Smarter than
Miss Robinson! This will be a review of the
major concepts from all 5 math strands from the
previous year.
Next, students will discover the world (and
excitement) of Math Baseball! J Math Baseball
is an exciting few weeks of lessons in place
value! Students in Grade 6 will be learning
about place value to the millions and the
thousandths, while Grade 5s will be learning
about place value to the hundred thousands and
the hundredths.
Game Day (what we call tests in our
classroom, since they practice leading up to
Game Day and show off their stuff) will be on
September 30. I will be sending home practice
questions a week prior to Game Day.
In Science, we will be learning about the human
body (Grade 5) and Biodiversity (Grade 6)! J
