Horrors of Trench Warfare Lesson

This lesson from junior year was meant to give students a sense of the horrible conditions
soldiers had to deal with in the trenches during WWI. I incorporated many images of these
horrible circumstances because I thought they would be much more memorable for the students
then just me describing them would be. I also incorporated primary source excerpts from
soldiers that survived the nasty conditions. The worksheet I gave the students asked questions
that followed along with the PowerPoint. While I do think the lesson was successful in
connecting to the students I also think that connection could have been even stronger than if I
had presented it simply as a question and answer lesson. I should have included more inference
based questions where the students could use the information being presented to them in the
lesson and formulate their own stances.
