Educational Philosophy Statement Reflection

The original philosophy I wrote as junior remains at the core of what I believe in today. I
feel that character development is critical in students. I am not trying to downplay the
significance of academic growth in school; I am simply saying that maturing as a person is
equally important. I also highlight the fact that education does not end when school does.
Everyone should strive to be lifelong learners. Therefore, as teachers it is important to teach
students the skills they will be able to use for the rest of their lives to continue to be
academically, socially, and civically engaged. I also stressed that a schools main mission should
be to prepare students for the adult world. I mentioned in my statement that school should not be
simply a regurgitation of material, but rather an interactive environment and I think schools are
changing in this way for the better. Other than a few small revisions my beliefs written junior
year remain the same today. After going through the Neag program and gathering teaching
experience at my placements I actually feel even stronger and more passionate about what I
wrote now than I did when I originally wrote this statement.
