Shante Moody
CBE Assessment
1.

Elizabeth A. is a senior in high school. She is very active in her school and her in

community. She participates in many sports such as volleyball, basketball, and track and field.
She has won many awards for her many achievements and holds leadership roles for those teams.
Although she plays many sports, she takes pride in her schoolwork and tries her best in every
class. She would like the opportunity to attend a four year university, so to better prepare herself
she started taking AP English to ensure that her writing skills are up to par. Aside from her
academic and active sporting activities, she also has extra pressure from her family to attend
college. If she gets accepted into a college/university, she will be the first in her family to
successfully attend college and have a degree. This gives her extra motivation to find a way to be
successful in a college atmosphere.
Elizabeth knows that she likes living in the city, and would never want to be in a rural
area for school. She would like to go to a school in New York City. Her future career hopefully
would be in the field of finance. By going to school in New York City, she would be closer to the
finance capital of the world and that could open up more opportunities for her upon graduation.
Within the next 10 years, she hopes to attend and successfully complete her under graduate
degree in Finance. After graduation, she wants to get a job on Wall Street working with the stock
exchange.
2.

I think that Elizabeth should attend college right after graduation from high school. It will

be an easier transition than taking time off in between graduation and her first semester in
college. The lag time in between opens the opportunity for students to change their mind and
become lazy when it comes to completing assignments. Also by going into college as a freshman
right away, it gives her more chances of meeting more people who are her age in her same
current position. This could be helpful when making new friends and living in dorms with people

who are the same age as her. I believe that once you start school you should continue until you
have reached your desired amount. Once you start it becomes much harder to continue and get
back into the motions. You begin to change your priorities.
3. The four colleges that she was accepted into were:
1.
2.
3.
4.
4.

Towson University
University of Maryland
New York University
Pace University
Elizabeth wants to pursue a major in the field of accounting or finance. She thinks these

majors are best for her because she has strong academics when it comes to math. She enjoys
working with numbers and figuring out calculations. She also knows that theses two fields are in
high demand. Thinking in the long run, businesses are always going to need accountants and
there are so many opportunities that would become available with a degree in this field. Her
mothers career has also played a role in her decision as well. Her mother currently works for
Wal-Mart in their business and finance office. She admires her mother and her achievements
within her career and likes the work that she has seen her mother complete.
5. When it comes to choosing a college or university the four decision criteria that she will use
are:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Location
Price
Food availability
Safety

Location is important because she already know that she dislikes being in a rural area. She
knows that she will have a better experience of college life if she attends school in the city.
Price is important because she doesnt have to have extensive amounts of debt coming out of
college. She knows that her parents will help her pay most of her expenses, however she still

wants to keep in mind the financials of her parents. Food availability is important because she
will not have a car on campus for at least the first two years, so having many options of places to
eat offers a variety so that she doesnt have to eat the same thing over and over again. Also if it is
a big campus, she doesnt want to have to walk very far to find food options either. And lastly,
finding a school that is located in the city and safe would be a plus.

7. Weighted Criteria:

Criterion
Location
Price
Food Availability
Safety

Weight
.30
.45
.20
.05

Price received the highest weight because you need to choose a place that is financially in your
budget. You must think of how much debt you want to be in upon graduating from college and
find out how much your parents are going to contribute.
Location received the second highest weight because Elizabeth knows that she doesnt want
attend any college in the rural area. She wants to attend a college in the city to offer a different
kind of experience.
Food Availability received the third highest weight because since she wont have a car, he must
have different options for food choices. They need to have multiple locations so that if she is in
one area she doesnt have to walk very far.
Safety received the lowest weight because all the schools have similar safety programs in affect.

9. Based on research and the decision criteria spreadsheet, Elizabeth should choose to attend
New York University. Although NYU has the 3rd highest price, they offer the best prime
location, which was the first thing that she knew she wanted. They also have many food
locations on campus and close to the university since located in the city. They have great
transportation and are located new the business district which would aid her career after
graduating with a degree in accounting or finance. Towson and Pace University were good
choices but they didnt offer as many food options. Towson and University of Maryland have the
lowest tuition cost but they arent located in an urban area.
