S.K-2.D.2.1: Identify basic weather conditions.
I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):
The 2nd grade students will be able to describe seasonal and annual patterns on Earth by
making a collage of the seasons on a piece of paper.
II. Instructional Materials
Paper
Markers
Magazines
Scissors
Glue Stick (1 per student)
Guided Notes sheet
III. Subject Matter/Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea, outline of
additional content)
A. Prerequisite skills
1.) Students will share what they already know about seasons by looking at a
picture and brainstorming what they see.
B. Key Vocabulary
1.) Seasons- a period of the year characterized by particular conditions of
weather, temperature, etc.
2.) Winter- the coldest season
3.) Spring- the warmest season
4.) Summer- the hottest season
5.) Fall- the chilly season

1.) Why do the seasons change?

IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1.) To introduce this lesson the students will fill out a K-W-L chart to let me
know how much they know about the seasons.
2.) After this the teacher will show a video, The Seasons Song to motivate
and spark their interest. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Lig67t2xg)
3.) The teacher will ask interactive questions to promote active listening and
check for comprehension.
a. What words would you use to describe the seasons where we live?
b. What do you think causes the changes from one season to the next?
(Record answers in the What We Know column of the class K-W-L
Chart)
B. Development
1.) The teacher and students will use their acquired knowledge from the video
to create a definition for the four seasons.
2.) The students will fill out the guided notes sheet (see attached)
3.) The class will draw their version of their favorite season individually.
4.) The teacher will put students into groups when they complete their
drawings of their favorite season to create their own season book.
5.) After completing the inquiry the class will participate in a whole group
discussion to share their books.
C. Closure
1.) The teacher will review with students what they have learned about the
seasons. Record their responses in the What We Learned column of the
class K-W-L Chart.

1.) To accommodate students with ADHD, I will have the class work in small
groups to support issues such as attention, note taking, and clarification.
E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan
1. Formative
a. The teacher will float during group activities to formatively assess the
comprehension and progress of the students. (The teacher will use her
data sheet to record the students comprehension of the objectives and
standards.)
b. The students drawings of the seasons will be collected, and recorded.
2. Summative

1.) The teacher will collect the students guided notes to see who was
following along in the video and who wasnt.
