Observation Task 3: Mapping Environments: The

Learning
Environment
Focus: The learning environment.
Student teachers will observe how the classroom is organized and the
different interaction patterns in the classroom. They will observe the
environment and the resources available to facilitate teaching and learning.
Objective:
For student teachers to map the learning environment that exists in the
classroom including the layout of the seated area and learning centers.

Task

Make a sketch of the classroom and identify the function of


each area.

Procedure:
Draw a map of the learning environment within the classroom and list the
functions of each of the activity areas. If possible take photographs of the
classroom including displays on the wall.

Examples:
Area
Water area

Function
Washing art equipment/organizing art
activities

Library
No library in the class
Writing area
Practice on writing
Reading area
Read different types of stories
Creativity area
Creat new thing by different materials
Bags lockers
Keep students bags
*Add rows as required
Things to consider:
Think about why the classroom layout is organized as it is.

Ask your MST why the desk/tables are arranged as they are and the
function of each area of the classroom. To use each table in
different activities and encourage students to creat

Give examples of activities you observed and the way in which the
classroom organization makes these activities accessible. Consider
ease of movement within the learning environment. In art class
students paint liters and decorate it to keep it in them mind.

How and where are materials stored in the classroom? Do the


children/learners need to be able to get and put materials away? In
different shelves at the end and middle of the class.

Where does the teacher have her table/papers/materials? Table:at the


begeneg of the class beside the smart board,Papers:at the end
of the class on top shelves,Materials:at the end and middle of
the class.

Observation
Based on your observations and discussions, summarize what you have
observed.
Use descriptive vocabulary to clearly explain the learning
environment in your class.

Reflection
This week, your reflection will be in a different style than the past
two weeks. Please base your reflection on the points below. Be
sure to actually reflect (think deeply about) the importance of the
learning environment.

Are there areas in the class that encourage independent learning? Give
some examples. Why are these areas important?
The idea of learners being active learners. Discuss how the classroom
organization facilitates activities for the learners.
Think about classrooms you have been in in the past. Were there any
that were more comfortable than others?
Why is being comfortable in the classroom an important part of
learning?

The class room FS3C includes many different learning


areas.Each area benifet students to developed,such as writing
area,reading area,math area,and creativity area.The most
important area is creativity area,because it motivate students to
create and have space to do as much at they can do and all work
are perfect,so they felt confident about themselves and create
more.There is also another area beside smart board which keep
students able to feel comfortable and do what they want
like,playing,reading, stories,and do some bazel.Each activity
teacher will do is benefit students,so activities make them
thinking,imagine,painting,and the important thing learning more.
