Essential Questions:
What is evaporation?
How is a hurricane formed?
Does a hurricane form in warm or cold water?
What is the eye of a hurricane like?
What determines the Category of a hurricane?
What are some effects of a hurricane?

Engagement- an activity/demonstration that will hook your students to your lesson:

First, the teacher will allow students to review the water cycle by completing their Water Cycle Kits which they have
previously begun. They will be allowed approximately 10 minutes to complete these kits. Next, the teacher will begin by
showing a video from National Geographic which shows and tells about hurricanes. This is a review day for the students
regarding hurricanes, so this will further build the bridge between learning about hurricanes and experiencing what they
could be like.

Exploration - identify and develop concepts, processes, and skills:

The class will then turn their attention to the power point presentation which begins with an explanation of a hurricane. The
teacher will review the information with the students, ensuring to answer any questions they may have from the previous
day.

Explanation - multi-media, textbook, audio, video, photo, Power Point:

Next, the teacher will go through the slides, explaining what a hurricane is, what the eye of a hurricane is, how the
hurricanes are measured, and the effects of hurricanes. (See Power Point).

Expansion student activity, study sheet, small groups, project:

At the beginning of the class period, the students will complete a representation by drawing, coloring, and labeling their
own water cycle page.
The students will then watch a brain pop video while the teacher periodically pauses the video to hold a brief discussion.

Evaluation quiz, presentation, project, student responses

The teacher will then lead a class quiz on Kahoot.it regarding what we have learned today about hurricanes.
