IT (Information Technology) Specialist

Location: Charlotte, NC - United States

PRIMARY PURPOSE
The IS Technician provides ongoing operational support to the plant and is responsible for maintaining
personal computing and network connectivity. This person continuously develops and leverages technical
knowledge for the systems and applications helping to drive overall operational excellence. The IS
Technician will liaison with Global Information Systems organization to participate and ensure IT
standards are met. This person will assist the Owens Corning Service Desk along with our local and
global partners when necessary to support issues, upgrade and enhance technology as they occur. This
position supports the start-up of the Gastonia Non Wovens facility.
REPORTS TO: Gastonia Maintenance Leader
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Living the Safety stand, adhering to all safety responsibilities
Adheres to, and continuously improves, all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and
standards.
Ensures a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and builds a culture where safety
is a first priority.
Effectively communicates Owens Cornings safety stand with external parties and ensures that they work
according to our standards.
Directing Operations
Maintains accurate count of all PC and other required technology assets
Responsible for server backups and restores; switching back up tapes, managing tape library and
cleaning tape backup machine
Leverages the AWAQS system to support the manufacturing process, maintain manufacturing execution
systems (MES) for the plant and associated applications (Historian, Labeling, Visual Factory, etc.)
Refreshes and provides regular maintenance to the technology used to support the computing
environment, including servers, laptops, desktop, routers and switches
Maintains responsibility for IT security and promotes general awareness
Provides after hours and week-end support as needed
Consults with people in other functional areas such as operations, warehousing, maintenance, quality,
safety, and human resources; consults with counterparts in the world headquarters and other facilities
Drives high value solutions and promotes waste elimination in all areas of the plant
Contributes to a visual and data-driven culture
Prepares reports as needed by customers including system downtime, applications changes and activity
that impacts local MES application environment
Leading and Developing Talent
Develops and executes training plans for team members to support a continuous learning environment for
employees
Provides coaching to team members, driving ownership and engagement
Promotes a work environment characterized by mutual trust and respect, open and honest
communications, teamwork and a passion for wining
Serves as a technical expert and invests in the growth and development of others
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated competence in information technology
Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a related field
Experience with lean, six sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is preferred
Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
Ability to work extended or flexible hours as needed
Ability to sit, stand, walk for prolonged periods of time
EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated competence in the following computer and software systems: VRLS/ELS systems, HTML
languages, Win wedge, CPS systems, SQL scripts (MS Access, Excel reports, Visual Basic), Aspen tech
programming
Experience with process control, computer systems validation and network (Ethernet TCP/LP and bus
systems)
Experience with process control tuning PID loops
Experience with control systems
Demonstrated ability to work both strategically and hands-on
A proven track record of driving results by engaging others
Demonstrated ability to coach and guide for results
Demonstrated ability to organize/lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of computer aided manufacturing automation
Affinity with interfacing of different systems/different suppliers (OPC server/client solutions and database
connections)
Strong analytic skills
Ability to manage multiple objectives while also demonstrating attention to detail
General knowledge and understanding of the work processes
